Through April 1 – 3, the entrance ceremony for the 2016 year welcomed incoming undergraduate, graduate, and art & architecture school students. Due to the ongoing construction of the new memorial hall, the ceremony was held in different locations across campus according to the student’s affiliation.

In addition to the 877 students who entered the university in September the previous year, Waseda welcomed 9,421 undergraduates and 2,905 graduate students, totaling up to 13,203 incoming students for the 2016 school year as of April 1. 1,474 of these students are international students, accounting for 11.2% of the entering class. These exceptional students gathered at Waseda and from all over Japan and the world.

President Kamata welcomed the newly admitted students with words of encouragement. “Through Waseda’s long history and tradition, the university has cultivated an academic and cultural wealth. By providing students with a supportive environment and state-of-the-art facilities, as well as introducing them to opportunities for personal growth among their peers and mentors, we hope the students will proactively drive themselves. We wish you all the best.”
