The Cambodia Tomonkai is a Waseda University alumni network based in Cambodia that was originally founded in 2016 and revitalized in 2025. Under the leadership of Chairperson Isao Terada, the group has restarted its activities and grown to dozens of members, bringing together alumni, professionals, and students living in Cambodia. Members describe it as a supportive community that helps people adjust to life and work abroad, while also reflecting on Cambodia’s broader context as a rapidly developing country with strong ties to Japan and a mix of historical heritage and modern urban growth.
The group was recently highlighted in Waseda Gakuho, a bimonthly magazine issued by the Waseda University Alumni Association (WUAA). An English version featuring additional details about the Cambodia Tomonkai, along with comments from the chairperson and members, visit the WUAA website here.

Waseda University places strong importance on its alumni as key members of the Waseda community and takes pride in having produced many influential figures across politics, business, science and technology, literature, sports, and film. As the university moves toward its 150th anniversary in 2032, it is strengthening engagement with alumni and sharing updates on new initiatives under Waseda Vision 150, its strategic plan to further develop Waseda as a leading global university.
In collaboration with the WUAA, established in 1885, the university continues to support a wide global alumni network that connects more than 600,000 graduates in Japan and abroad, while also assisting current students and maintaining alumni relationships. Today, there are around 70 overseas Tomonkai groups that welcome both new members and visitors worldwide.
