Regarding the Arrest of a Waseda University Student
Wed, Nov 15, 2023A student of Waseda University was arrested on suspicion of violating the Cannabis Control Law. Waseda University is deeply ashamed to learn of these reports, despite Japan’s continued efforts to eradicate cannabis use. The University considers this a matter of grave concern, and we extend our deepest apologies. We will investigate the circumstances that led to the present situation, and we intend to do our utmost to take the proper measures to prevent any recurrence.
Waseda University takes this matter seriously, and regarding the sumo club, to which the student belongs, we ordered the suspension of all activities effective November 14th while the details are confirmed. Going forward, we will fully cooperate with the investigation, work to confirm the facts as quickly as possible, and disclose any additional information.
