Agreement to train data science experts

Information Services International-Dentsu, Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President, CEO & COO: Ryoichi Nawa; hereinafter, “ISID”) and Waseda University’s Center for Data Science (Location: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Director: Toshiyasu Matsushima; hereinafter, “CDS”) announce that an academic exchange agreement was concluded between the two parties on October 1, 2019. The primary goal of this agreement is to develop to train data science experts currently a scarce asset in terms of promoting business in the fields of IoT, big data, AI and security. Through this agreement, both parties will support and collaborate on research and educational activities related to data science.

ISID and CDS have also collaborated previously, with ISID offering courses on business utilizing AI and machine learning technology for CDS’s Development of Data Analysis Talents (D-DATa) Program*. Through this agreement, both parties will expand the scope of their collaborative efforts while mutually supporting and promoting research based on actual business issues from various points of view. On October 11, ISID and CDS will hold a symposium for doctoral students and researchers at Waseda University. In this event, both parties plan to offer presentations featuring examples of applications of AI and machine learning in business and research utilizing data science, as well as explanations regarding public appeals for research grants. Through these exchanges, ISID and CDS will promote training data science experts.

*A program from Waseda University that was given a subsidized project status by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2017. It offers a wide range of basic and practical programs for highly skilled human resources such as doctoral students and doctoral degree holders, supporting them in their efforts to acquire effective skills and develop their careers.

About the Center for Data Science

Established in December 2017, the Center for Data Science (CDS) maximizes Waseda’s strengths as a comprehensive research university and integrates knowledge from the sciences, the humanities, and the social sciences with data science. The purpose of CDS is to train data science experts who can create new knowledge and tackle complex global issues, as well as to leverage the overall research capabilities at Waseda University.
