2016 MEXT Minister Prize for Science and Technology
Three professors from Waseda University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering was awarded the 2016 Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) Minister Prize for Science and Technology in the research division.
This award recognizes scientists who contribute to the field of science and technology with highly innovative research full of potential and development. Professors Hiroshi Kawarada, Hiromi Nakai, and Hideo Kozono from the Faculty of Science and Engineering attended the award ceremony.
Below are quoted messages from each professor:
Professor Hiroshi Kawarada, Faculty of Science and Engineering
Research: Diamond power transistors and biosensors
“In this research, […] I integrated my knowledge of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) synthetic diamond technology and the material’s electrical, physical, and chemical properties to develop device materials such as power semiconductors and biosensors. This is Waseda’s original technology. […] I would like to contribute to research and education of electrical and physical materials of this university.”
Professor Hiromi Nakai, Faculty of Science and Engineering
Research: Relativistic quantum chemistry for strategic element
“… This prize recognizes not only myself, but the laboratory’s staff and students who have contributed to the research as well, and I would like to thank and share this joyous moment with them. In the future, I hope to further enhance this research and expand on theoretical chemistry by taking principle-based and applied approaches. “
Professor Hideo Kozono, Faculty of Science and Engineering
Research: Mathematical approaches for fundamental equations of fluid mechanics
“This accomplishment was made possible by support of the School of Fundamental Science and Engineering, as well as professors and staff in pure and applied mathematics. […] It makes me happy I could make a contribution to Waseda Vision 150. “
