On the passing of Lee Kuan Yew
Tue, Mar 24, 2015Waseda University mourns the passing of former Singapore prime minister Lee Kuan Yew.
As Singapore’s first prime minister, Lee displayed strong leadership, great foresight and endless enthusiasm. His thorough competence in politics, economic and foreign policy helped Singapore become a highly developed country, and contributed to the development of Asia as a whole. Lee was instrumental in creating the peaceful and stable development of Asia which has gained notice around the world.
In recognition of his remarkable accomplishments, Waseda awarded Lee its honorary doctorate in 2003. At the award ceremony, Lee urged Japan to continue investing in research and development, and enjoined students to learn English at a young age.
