Waseda University and Peking University have founded a Double Degree
Program of ‘Environment / Sustainable Development Studies’ for the graduate/master level
In 2008, Waseda University and Peking University signed a Letter of Intent for the foundation of a joint graduate school in the field of Environment / Sustainable Development Studies. The objective is to nurture future leaders that are able to solve global scale problems. Expedition and admission of students for the master’s course Double Degree Program between Waseda University’s Graduate School of Environmental and Energy Engineering and Peking University’s College of Environmental Sciences and Technology began in September, 2012.
If the requirements by both universities are met, students who are a part of this program will submit a thesis for a degree, after studying abroad at their respective universities. If they pass, they can receive two degrees from Waseda University and Peking University.

Type of person the Double Degree Program aims to nurtureThis program aims to nurture the “leader type” that has a global perspective. It promotes the joint research of a subject both Japan and China are interested in, in regards to the environment and sustainable developing areas of the two countries. Reinforcement of the foundations of studies, cultivation in wide perspectives and progress of abilities are considered very important. Goals also include the following: support of the abilities for independent studies of sustainable development and environmental management of the territories; nurture of high level human resources that can lead education, scientific research, and work of international administrative agencies and enterprises.
[Reference: Waseda University’s double degree program]The Double Degree Program of Waseda was founded in Peking University and Fudan University in 2005 on the undergraduate level. Later, it was founded in Nanyang Technological University,National Taiwan University, National University of Singapore, and Columbia University in the undergraduate and masters levels. These programs were used to accept/dispatch over 500 students; over 250 of those students were with Peking University.
