Ippei Watanabe, a second year student at the School of Sport Sciences, came in 6th place in the Rio Olympic Games’ 200 meter breaststroke finals on August 11. Although Watanabe did not take home a medal, he established the new Olympic record of 2:07.22 in the semifinal.

Watanabe, who is still 19 years old, is still growing as an athlete and full of potential. We look forward to seeing him in action in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
