The visit began with welcoming remarks by Masahiko Gemma, Vice President of Waseda University. This was followed by a presentation from Professor Shigeki Sugano, Director of the Future Robotics Organization, who introduced the organization’s research activities and provided an overview of AIREC (AI-driven Robot for Embrace and Care). The delegation also attended a demonstration of AIREC and toured the facilities.

AIREC is a general-purpose intelligent robot designed to autonomously learn and perform a wide range of highly complex tasks. In addition to customer service and household assistance, it is expected to contribute to fields such as healthcare, nursing care, and welfare services.

London is home to fifteen partner institutions of Waseda University, including University College London (UCL) and King’s College London. Waseda University maintains active academic exchange and collaboration with these institutions.
