The Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics will begin on February 6th. As of January 28th, two current Waseda students and ten alumni have been selected to represent Japan.

Current students Mone Chiba (School of Human Sciences’ Online Degree Program), a member of the University’s skating club, is scheduled to compete in Figure Skating, while Mitsuki Ono (4th year, School of Sport Sciences) is set to compete in the Snowboard Halfpipe.

For Nordic Combined, all three Japanese representatives were selected from former members of Waseda University’s ski club, meaning the team will be entirely composed of Waseda athletes. Among them, Akito Watabe has now been selected for six consecutive Olympic Games—Turin, Vancouver, Sochi, Pyeongchang, and Beijing—and hopes are high for him to achieve his long-cherished goal of winning a gold medal.
