On COVID-19 Vaccinations at Waseda University

To all students, faculty, staff, and persons working at Waseda University

Waseda University has decided to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to all students, faculty, staff, and personnel working at the University. Our policy conforms with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, which requested on June 3 that we offer vaccinations. We have been carefully preparing this project since then.

We are making COVID-19 vaccinations available at three locations on or off Waseda campus beginning on Monday, July 5, 2021.

All students, faculty, and staff are eligible to receive the vaccine. This includes University-affiliated faculty and staff, part-time lecturers, and personnel working on campus including employees from companies related to Waseda, as well as people connected to Waseda-affiliated schools in Greater Tokyo Metropolitan Area. Waseda-related personnel eligible for the vaccination may approximate 61,000.

For more information, please read the notice directly sent to you by the University, “Detailed Information on the COVID-19 Vaccinations as a Workplace/University at Waseda University.”

Accepting the vaccination is not compulsory. Be considerate of the decisions of others, and refrain from applying pressure on people who choose to remain unvaccinated.

Receiving the vaccination will reduce the probability of developing serious symptoms, even after becoming infected with COVID-19, but the vaccine does not provide complete protection from infection. It is possible to get infected even after receiving the vaccine and to spread the virus to others. We strongly recommend that you continue to protect yourself and others from COVID-19 with wisdom and care.

It is our ardent hope that we can return to a normal education as well as research environment and student life by the latter half of this coming autumn semester (or by the winter quarter) through our effective vaccinations program. Let us work together toward this goal.

I am sending you every good wish for health, learning and research.

Best regards,
Aiji Tanaka
President, Waseda University
