Waseda University High School’s rubber baseball club team members, along with Principal Yamanishi and the team’s director, Mr. Dezaki, visited President Kamata at Okuma Auditorium on September 12 to report their victory in the 61st National Rubber Baseball Tournament. President Kamata welcomed and congratulated the team for coming in second place, which has not been accomplished in the last 57 years as representatives of Tokyo.
Each student had the opportunity to share their story behind the team’s victory. President Kamata was impressed by their efforts and gave his words of encouragement: “You must all be very proud of your achievements in the national tournament, but I’m sure some of you still carry your disappointments and regrets of what you could have done better. I hope that you will change this into a positive energy for the 71st National Sport Festival on October 2 in Iwate Prefecture. I look forward to your success.”
The team hopes to become the first in the School’s history to win in the National Sports Festival. Good luck!
About the Waseda University High School
Waseda University High School was established in 1949 on the grounds of the previous Waseda University High School prior to the war (the original high school was founded in 1920). In 1956, the new school was moved to its present location in Kamishakujii of the Nerima Ward. The School is in a generous, leafy site, about 20 minutes away from central Tokyo. 2010 saw the establishment of the new Waseda University Junior High School on the same site, as well as an extensive renovation and rebuilding program, which has brought the school facilities firmly into the 21st century.
The school’s aims are to foster the goals of independence, good citizenship and a focus on practical knowledge; goals shared with Waseda University. Nearly 1800 male students are currently enrolled, and we are proud that many of our successful graduates engaged in a diverse number of fields throughout the world. All graduates of this high school meeting necessary criteria are entitled to enter Waseda University and are therefore expected to study a comprehensive range of subjects.
