Honorary Doctorate Conferred on Dr. Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross

On November 20, Waseda University conferred an Honorary Doctorate upon Dr. Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross. Many people from Waseda and other organizations attended the ceremony and commemorative speech at Ono Auditorium.
Preceding the conferral ceremony, Waseda University and the ICRC concluded an agreement to strengthen institutional ties. With this agreement, employment and internship opportunities with the ICRC can now be actively publicized to Waseda students. Joint seminars and symposia offer students an opportunity to more deeply understand the role of the ICRC as well as the importance of providing impartial, neutral and independent humanitarian aid and protection to victims of war and armed conflict. In addition to jointly hosting events, Waseda and the ICRC are also planning to work together on joint research in the future.
About the Waseda University Honorary Doctorate
An honorary doctorate is conferred to those who have achieved significant distinction is academia, culture, and other areas contributing to humanity. Waseda University has awarded 142 honorary doctorates thus far, including to Dr. Maurer.
