A proposal by a team comprised of students and faculty members of Waseda University and Shibaura Institute of Technology was selected for the ENEMANE House 2017 Initiative on June 21.

Currently in Japan, net-zero energy houses (ZEH) are gaining attention. Without hindering comfortable room temperature, ZEH exhibit zero net primary energy consumption, meaning the difference between energy used and energy created equals zero. The ENEMANE House Initiative was established by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) in 2013 as an opportunity for students to think about ZEH as future housing and build models using cutting-edge technology.

Waseda University and Shibaura Institute of Technology, in which both universities have received honorary awards in the past, are collaborating this year for their ZEH theme “In This Corner of the Outskirts: The 80-Year Story of My House and Me.”
