Research Topic
Proprioception, Low back pain, Physical therapy:
Peripheral and central mechanisms of proprioceptive postural control in healthy individuals and in people with spinal pain. Muscle vibration, as a strong stimulus of muscle spindles, plays a central role in studying proprioception in his research team. A specific focus is on muscle characteristics, including activity, fatigability, quality (both back muscles and inspiratory muscles), as a mechanism for a decreased proprioceptive control variability, and on the effects of a novel proprioceptive training program in patients with recurrent low back pain and in patients after (neuro-) surgery.
Fields of Research Interests
Exercise, Motor control, Muscle, Musculoskeletal rehabilitation, Low back pain, Physical therapy, Postural control, Proprioception, Rehabilitation sciences, Spinal disorders
