“Diversity and Liberty in East Asia: Historical Development and Contemporary Significance”(9/26-9/28)
Outline
The upcoming academic conference aims to explore the intricate dynamics of Diversity and Liberty within the context of East Asia, shedding light on how these concepts, despite their foreign origins, have played pivotal roles in the region’s historical and contemporary landscapes. As East Asia continues to emerge as a significant player on the global stage, understanding these values becomes crucial in comprehending its societal transformations and cultural negotiations.
Themes
Historical and Contemporary Relevance: Both diversity and liberty are critical in understanding the socio-political and cultural fabric of East Asia. This theme invites papers that explore the historical significance of these values and their evolving importance in contemporary East Asian societies.
Diversified Manifestations: We seek to uncover how the notions of diversity and liberty manifest uniquely across different East Asian contexts. Papers should explore the varied expressions and interpretations of these concepts, influenced by local cultures, languages, and histories.
Case Studies and Development: Focused case studies are essential for a deep dive into the actual development of diversity and liberty within specific East Asian locales. Contributions should detail empirical research or theoretical analysis that highlights localized experiences and developments.
Speakers
Scholars are invited from Australia, Bangladesh, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, Vietnam, and others. The presentation topics would be covering religious diversity, social movement, role of women in society, and LGBTQ movement.
