Waseda Weekly publishes a variety of articles, including "Focus," which features various systems and facilities on campus, events, and points to note; "People," which introduces students who are active both on and off campus; and articles about classes, Professor, Alumnus and student club who are active in various fields, and even topics ranging from studying abroad to everyday concerns.
We have also adopted a Waseda University student reader monitor system, where articles are evaluated every week. Each article is rated from 1 to 5 stars, and we receive feedback, both good and bad, which we use to create better articles. Here we will introduce the articles published between June 24 and July 19, 2024, in order of highest reader monitor ratings, along with the actual comments received!
1. [Special Issue] We asked 9 graduates who are shining in various fields! 20 things they are glad they did while they were in college (Published on July 1, 2024)
I had seen posters of this article in various places on campus, so I was interested in it. After reading Miyaji Manami's article, I decided to emulate her consistent attitude. Also, when I read that one of the good things President did was fall in love and have a broken heart, I couldn't help but laugh. It was an interesting article. (1st year master's student in the Graduate School of Accountancy)
The talks by famous Waseda graduates were very informative. Several people mentioned studying as something they were glad they did while they were in university, which motivated me to study. I especially liked Takahashi Hiroki's comment that "university is a good deal because you can study without paying extra!" I think that's true! I'm thinking of taking open courses in fields that interest me next semester (4th year student School of Advanced Science and Engineering)
2. [Focus] Special feature on Waseda students and Alumnus Olympians competing in the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games! (Published July 15, 2024)
This is a great project! Of course I support Japanese athletes, but if I go to the same school, I feel even more motivated to support them. I think this is a great thing about attending Waseda University. (4th year, School of Political Science and Economics)
It was interesting to hear the stories of people who have risen to the top in their respective sports. It was also interesting to see the university student side of them. (1st year master's student in the Graduate Graduate School of Political Science)
Also popular was the article published in the same week about Table Tennis Club member Masahiro Funayama, who will be competing in the Paralympics in [People]!
I thought it was cool that he didn't give up on his current situation and made it through the selection process to participate. I was also surprised that he was in School of Humanities and Social Sciences. I had the impression that athletes were mostly from School of Sport Sciences, so I thought it was amazing that he was able to be both an athlete and a student in School of Humanities and Social Sciences (1st year, School of Commerce)
3. [Focus] Affordable accommodation and beautiful facilities are attractive! Kamogawa Seminar House is available for use (Published June 24, 2024)
I will actually be using Seminar House this summer, so reading the article gave me the details, and it was perfect timing. I feel so blessed to have five cheap, well-equipped accommodation facilities unique to the university (3rd year School of Law)
I was planning to go on an overnight trip with friends during the summer holidays, but I was having trouble finding a good place to stay. I had no idea that there was a service like this related to my university... This article made me think, "This is exactly the kind of information I was looking for!" (1st year, School of Commerce)
Reasonably priced accommodation and clean facilities! Kamogawa Seminar House is available
4. [People] Waseda University student who opened "Tokyo Shrimp Tomato" becomes the bearer of Waseda culture with his love of ramen (Published on July 2, 2024)
It looks delicious. I thought the idea of "Wasemeal for students, by students" was interesting (1st year student, School of Education)
I thought it was really amazing that he decided to open his own store, that he continued to come up with new ideas even after opening, and that he was thinking about his juniors. I became interested in Waseda's entrepreneurship training classes (2nd year student School of Human Sciences)
5. [Focus] What kind of volunteer work can you do at Waseda? Introducing the voices of Waseda students using WAVOC! (Published on July 8, 2024)
Because disasters happen suddenly, even if people want to volunteer, there seems to be little that individuals can do. The establishment of a "Volunteer Center" means that if they are unsure of what to do, they can consult with this organization, and I thought it was a good system. (1st year master's student, Graduate School Graduate School of Creative Science and Engineering)
After reading the article, I thought I would like to participate in WAVOC's activities someday. I'm not particularly good at sports or knowledgeable about disaster recovery, but I learned that even students like me can help others. It was also good to learn about the specific work that WAVOC does. (4th year student, School of Fundamental Science and Engineering)
