On Saturday September 5th 2015, Mr. Tomoki Nishimura from the San Francisco Tomonkai held a special lecture. This event is held by Waseda USA every year in September for Waseda University students studying abroad short-term during their summer break, and this year we had 12 students participate. The day started with each student giving a short self-introduction where they talked about their difficult experiences using English and what they learned from them. Mr. Nishimura’s theme for the hour-long lecture was “The Comparison of Japanese and American Corporate Culture.” He began by discussing his experiences living in Japan and America and then continued to compare the two countries from a corporate culture perspective. The students listened to Mr. Nishimura’s presentation with very much enthusiasm, and there were many great questions during the Q&A that followed the lecture. Everyone felt the spirit of Waseda and the two-hours were over before we knew it. Even after the presentation, a few students met with Mr. Nishimura one-on-one for further discussion. (The event surprisingly lasted to 5PM, much longer than any of us anticipated)
