なぜSSLとして応募したか Why I applied to be an SSL
私は高校時代に1年間イギリスへ留学しました。短い期間ではありましたが、そこで出会った多様な人々――人種、宗教、性別、価値観など、自分とはまったく異なる背景を持つ人々と時間をかけてコミュニケーションを重ねるうちに、お互いに文化を理解し、受け入れ合うことができたと感じました。そうして文化の違いを越えて築かれた関係には、強い絆や大きな喜びがありました。それこそが異文化交流の醍醐味だと強く感じることができ、そのような貴重な経験をさせていただいた立場として、今度は自分がそのような機会を提供するお手伝いができればと思い、SSLに応募いたしました。
早稲田大学には多様なバックグラウンドを持つ学生が集まり、まさに十人十色の人が行き交っています。その中で異文化交流の中心に位置するICCのSSLスタッフとして学生同士の異文化交流の懸け橋になれるよう尽力したいと思っております。
When I was 16 years old, I studied abroad in the UK for a year. Although it was a short time, I had the opportunity to interact with various people—those of different races, religions, genders, and values. As I spent time communicating with people from different backgrounds, I felt that we gradually started to understand and accept each other’s cultures. The relationships formed through overcoming cultural differences brought a deep sense of connection and great joy. Having had such a meaningful experience myself, I now want to help provide that opportunity for others, which is why I applied to become an SSL.
Diverse students are gathering at Waseda University. Within this diverse environment, I would like to dedicate myself as an SSL staff member at ICC, which is at the heart of intercultural exchange on campus, to serving as a bridge between students of different cultures.
SSLとして働くことへのやりがい Why I like being an SSL
SSLとして働く中で一番やりがいを感じるのは、イベントに参加してくださった方々が異文化交流を心から楽しみ、笑顔を見せてくれたときです。国籍や文化、価値観の違う人たちが出会い、互いを理解しながら関係を深めていく姿を見ると、奇跡のように感じます。生まれた場所もバックグラウンドも違う人たちが出会うこと自体がすでに特別なことなのに、その出会いが「つながり」へと発展していく――そんな場面に立ち会えることに喜びとやりがいを感じます。
また、自分自身がそのような環境の中で、たくさんの人と出会い、新しい価値観に触れながら日々成長できていることにも大きな幸せを感じています。尊敬する先輩方や職員の方々のサポートのもと、新しいことを学びながら刺激的で充実した毎日を過ごしています。そうした経験が、自分にとって大きな財産になっていると感じます。
The most rewarding part of being an SSL is seeing participants genuinely enjoy intercultural exchange and smile during the events. People from different countries, cultures, and values connect and deepen their understanding of one another… This is miraculous. It’s already special when people from such different places and backgrounds meet—but to see those encounters grow into deeper connections is incredibly moving and meaningful to me.
I also feel truly fortunate to be in an environment where I meet many people, encounter new perspectives, and grow every day. With the support of the senior SSLs and ICC staff whom I deeply respect, I am continuing to learn new things and spend my days feeling inspired and fulfilled. These experiences have become an invaluable asset in my life.

まずは自分のことを大切にして、それから相手を大切にできればいいと思います。最初の第一歩を後押しするのがICCだと思います。
