なぜSSLとして応募したか Why I applied to be an SSL
私自身、英語に自信が持てず、興味はあってもイベントへの参加をためらっていた時期がありました。しかし、思い切って参加してみると、会話が弾み、時間を忘れるほど楽しむことができました。その時に感じたのは、語学力よりも「相手を知りたい」「自分の気持ちを伝えたい」「交流したい」という前向きな思いが何より大切だということです。
ICCのイベントを通じて、これまで接点のなかった留学生と友人になり、異なる文化や価値観に触れることはとても刺激的で、自分の世界が広がるような感覚がありました。そんな体験を、かつての私のように一歩を踏み出すことに不安を感じている学生にも届けたい、その後押しをする存在になりたいと思い、学生スタッフリーダーに応募しました。
I used to hesitate about participating in intercultural events since I was not confident in my English ability. However, when I gathered the courage to join, I was able to have a great time talking with students from abroad. I found that the most important thing is not your language ability but a positive attitude trying to get to know others, expressing my feelings, and communicating openly.
Through the ICC events I became friends with students from overseas and learned about different cultures and ways of thinking. It was a really stimulating experience and I felt like my world had broadened. I decided to apply to be an SSL, because I want to support students like me to take a step and share the joy of intercultural communication.
SSLとして働くことへのやりがい Why I like being an SSL
この6月にSSLになったばかりではありますが、イベントで参加者の皆さんが笑顔で楽しんでいる様子を見るたびに、大きなやりがいを感じます。また、様々なバックグラウンドを持つ仲間たちと共に働く環境には日々学びが多く、自分の視野が広がっていることを実感しています。
さらに、オフィスワークや職員の方、外部の方とのやり取りなど、通常の大学生活ではなかなか得られない貴重な経験ができていることにも感謝しています。これからも、尊敬できる先輩方や頼もしい同期から多くのことを吸収し、自分自身も成長しながらICCに貢献していきたいです。
Even though I just became an SSL this June, I feel happy to see participants enjoying events. Working with colleagues from various backgrounds allows me to learn a lot and broadens my horizons every day.
I also appreciate the valuable experiences I wouldn’t normally have as a university student, such as office work and interacting with staff and external guests. From now on, I hope to absorb many things from my reliable co-workers, grow as a person, and contribute to the ICC team.
多様性・異文化理解について一言 About diversity and cultural exchange
自分のものさしだけで判断するのではなく、相手の価値観を尊重し、お互いの違いを認め合うことを心掛けています。簡単なことではありませんし、私自身もまだ学びの途中ですが、ICCでの活動を通して理解を深めていきたいと思っています。
I’ve always tried to make an effort to recognize and respect other people’s ways of thinking without judging them based on my own perspective.
Since this is not easy and I’m still learning, I hope to deepen my understandings through working at the ICC.
