なぜSSLとして応募したか Why I applied to be an SSL
Growing up as a second-generation Chinese immigrant in Luxembourg and studying in the UK for the past ten years have made me deeply aware of the importance of understanding and navigating multicultural identities. This is especially important in a world that is becoming increasingly politically polarised. After participating in several ICC events, I was drawn to the way ICC brings together students from all backgrounds and creates a space where everyone feels seen and heard. For me, becoming an SSL means contributing to this environment, helping my fellow students connect, and building friendships that foster a more inclusive world.
ルクセンブルクで中国移民の家庭に生まれ育ち、過去10年間はイギリスに留学しました。こうした経験を通して、多文化的なアイデンティティを理解し尊重することの大切さを強く感じるようになりました。特に、政治的に二極化へ進む現代社会においてはなおさらです。ICCのイベントに参加したことで、さまざまなバックグラウンドを持つ学生たちが集まり、誰もが「自分らしくいられる」場所をつくっていると実感しました。SSLとして働くことは、こうした多様性を大切にする空間づくりに貢献し、学生同士がつながり合えるきっかけを提供することだと考えています。互いを理解し合い、新しい友情を育むことで、よりインクルーシブな世界に近づけるのではないでしょうか。
SSLとして働くことへのやりがい Why I like being an SSL
I only joined the team this June, but it’s already been an incredibly rewarding experience. Our SSL team is filled with people from all walks of life, making it a vibrant cultural hub where different perspectives are welcomed and celebrated. I’ve felt so inspired by the creativity and passion of my teammates, and I’ve already gained skills that I know will help me in the future, beyond educational institutions. These few weeks have shown me how much potential we have, as students, to raise cultural awareness to a larger audience. And of course—the best part is always to see participants enjoy themselves and attend our events with a smile! ☻
6月にチームに加わったばかりですが、すでに多くの刺激と学びを得ています。SSLのメンバーは多様なバックグラウンドを持っており、ICCはまさに文化的なハブのような場所。さまざまな視点が自然に交差し、新しい価値観が生まれる空間です。仲間たちの創造性や情熱に日々刺激を受けながら、自分自身もさまざまなスキルを身につけることができています。この数週間で、学生である私たちにも文化を広める力があることに気づきました。そして何より、イベントに参加してくださった方々の笑顔を見る瞬間が、何よりのやりがいです！ ☻
多様性・異文化理解について一言 About diversity and cultural exchange
In today’s world, it’s not just about recognising our differences, it’s also about finding what connects us beyond them. ICC’s mission to create a space where all voices are heard is something I deeply resonate with. I believe intercultural communication is not only a tool but also a powerful first step towards mutual understanding and social change.
今の時代において大切なのは、「違い」を理解することに加えて、その違いを超えて「共通点」を見出すことだと思います。ICCが目指す、誰もが声を上げられ、尊重される場づくりには深く共感しています。異文化コミュニケーションは、その第一歩であり、より良い社会をつくるための力になると信じています。
