なぜSSLとして応募したか Why I applied to be an SSL
私は幼い時から異文化交流に興味があったのですが、挑戦する機会がほとんどありませんでした。そのため、早稲田の多様性に惹かれて、奈良から上京してきた私にとって、ICCでのそのイベントはまさに求めていた場でした。それまで独学だった韓国語をネイティブの方と話して友人になる経験もICCで初めてすることができました！私自身ICCにコミットしたい、また私と同じ境遇の方に同じくこの経験をお伝えしたいと強く感じて応募しました！
I’ve been interested in intercultural exchange since I was young, but I didn’t have many opportunities to pursue it. That’s why I was so drawn to Waseda’s diversity, and moving from Nara to Tokyo, the ICC events were exactly what I was looking for. It was also through ICC that I had my first experience of speaking Korean with native speakers and making friends using the language, as I had previously only done self-study! I decided to apply because I wanted to be part of ICC and share this experience with others who are in a similar situation as I was.
SSLとして働くことへのやりがい Why I like being an SSL
何よりも、参加者の方が交流している姿を間近で見ることができることです！また、参加者の方もSSLの先輩方もバックグラウンドや経験が豊富なので、新たな視点を学び続けることができます。SSLという立場になることで、参加者の時には気づかなかった、細かな部分への配慮やイベントの仕組みを毎日吸収できています！
What I find most rewarding is being able to watch the participants interact up close. Also, both the participants and senior SSLs have such rich backgrounds and experiences, so I’m constantly learning new perspectives. Being in the SSL position has allowed me to notice things I didn’t before as a participant, like the little details and the structure behind the events—something I absorb and appreciate every day!
多様性・異文化理解について一言 About diversity and cultural exchange
本当に難しいことで、私もまだまだ勉強中です。ですが、SNSで世界中の情報が広まると同時に偏見も得やすい時代だからこそ、直接それぞれの人と人として出会い、話してみることが異文化交流への第一歩だと思います！
It’s definitely a challenging topic, and I’m still learning a lot. However, in a world where information spreads quickly on social media, along with the rise of prejudice, I truly believe that meeting and talking to people face to face is the first step toward intercultural communication.
