There are several misconceptions that exist about what is defined as “African Fashion” and many definitions that are commonly used when describing it like “vivid”, “colorful” or “patterns”.
Through this workshop, our aim is to shed light on these misconceptions and provide a new lens through which fashion from Africa can be seen and defined.
This workshop is in collaboration with Bukky Adejobi and Seiko Mbako, co-founders of Awa’Tori, which aims to make connections between African and Japanese fashion, creativity in both regions, and promote cultural exchange.
If you are interested in fashion, clothing design and manufacturing, or if you are just curious about Africa in general, let us introduce you to the fascinating world of African fashion!
We look forward to seeing you there!

Awa’Tori is a Japan-based B2C and B2B creative agency with the aim of bridging the gap between the African and Japanese creative. Founded in 2019 by Bukky ADEJOBI and Seiko MBAKO, Awa’Tori is on a mission to educate and showcase the mutually beneficial opportunities between the two markets, at various levels of the creative industries value & supply chain.
Awa’Tori means “Our Story” in Pidgin English, a language widely spoken in several countries in Africa and loosely translated in Japanese as ‘Awa’ (from 合わせる) meaning bringing several cultures, peoples and countries together and ‘Tori’ (from 通り) as in bridging the Japan market to the African market.
