Many people often say that they want to work “globally” in the future.
What kind of work comes to mind when you hear about having a job on the world stage?
Well now the ICC has invited Mr. Tsunaki Ito, who has worked at JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) for five years to give a talk session about his experience of global work.
While studying here at Waseda Mr. Ito took 6 months leave and travelled by himself from Xi’an to Rome on a “Journey along the Silk Road” without using airplanes. His rules for the trip were to purchase at least one newspaper from each country, a Japanese textbook, a book about Japan written in the local languages and some historical souvenirs. He also bought Japanese guidebooks to the various countries, and then made a great effort to not stay in any of the hotels or guesthouses recommended by them in order to avoid Japanese people as much as possible.
He seemed to notice that “In the beginning I was thinking ‘How far can I go by myself’. But by the end of the trip this had changed to ‘How much cooperation could I get from other people’ which became the most important thing to me”.
As a result of that trip, he felt the appeal of countries working together to solve the problems of developing countries and later took a job working in international cooperation at JICA.
Currently Mr. Ito works at the Iraq office of JICA. Danger is an everyday companion and working with staff members from many different countries demands skill and ability in communication.
If you too want to work on the global stage in the future, in an international organisation or in the field of international cooperation then don’t miss this important chance to hear from someone with real experience on the front lines today!
We’re waiting for your participation!
