In May 2024, I volunteered at Waseda ICC’s English Chat Club (ECC), and it was a wonderful experience. Meeting other students and making new friends was the highlight. We engaged in English conversations, helping each other learn in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Being an English supporter and leading the learners can be nerve racking, but the activities that the ICC staff prepared for us were really engaging and helped conversation flow!
We played games in English like “Never Have I Ever” and the “Telephone Game,” which brought out lots of laughter and built bonds. It was a great mix of learning and fun! I would highly recommend volunteering at ECC to anyone interested in making friends, helping others improve their English skills, or just looking to meet new people in an uplifting environment. It’s a fantastic opportunity, especially for those who may not be confident in their Japanese but still want to connect with others.
My time at ECC was not only rewarding in terms of language practice but also in the friendships I formed and the enjoyable experiences we shared. It’s a place where conversing in English feels natural and fun, and where you can build meaningful connections along the way.
