From spectator to participant Volleyball Night Event Participant Report

Yanan
Graduate School of Sport Sciences

As I am a student of Sports Science, the distance from Tokorozawa to Waseda campus makes it difficult for me to have the opportunity to attend ICC events. But this volleyball night event was special, since the training ground in Kami-igusa isn’t far away, and I really like the Waseda University volleyball team!

At first, I was expecting to meet some of the members of the volleyball team, but the actual event was more fun than I expected – members from all over the world who were meeting each other for the first time teamed up and competed in friendly matches. My team included members from England, France, Japan, and China, some of whom were very strong and savvy. Even though we didn’t win the championship, we had a really good time playing together, especially for me as it was my first time playing volleyball in person. Maybe in the future, I’ll consider not only supporting as a spectator, but hopefully I’ll get another chance to play in a volleyball game.

I would also like to thank the ICC staff and the volleyball team staff, some of whom I met for the first time and some of whom I have met a few times. Without their dedication and participation, the event would not have been as smooth and fun. It was very interesting that my research lab and Prof. Matsui’s research lab are very close to each other, and it was great to finally meet Matsui-sensei!

I drew a picture of myself with the staff that night.
