The Book Talk event held on May 17, 2023, left a lasting impression on attendees, offering a truly remarkable experience that celebrated the joy of reading and intercultural exchange. From the moment participants arrived, we were warmly greeted by friendly ICC members. Their welcoming attitude set the tone for the event and made everyone feel comfortable and at ease. Throughout the event, the ICC members provided valuable assistance, ensuring that everything ran smoothly and that attendees had a memorable experience.

The event started with a tour of The Haruki Murakami Library, an architectural masterpiece that seamlessly blends practicality and aesthetics. Exploring the literary world of Haruki Murakami allowed us to develop a deeper understanding of the author. As we listened to his favorite music, interacted with his furniture, and admired his artwork, the realization that we all studied at the same university added a special connection. Furthermore, I would say his literature brought together all the participants from different countries, as it was delightful to see his book translated into each participant’s native language.

Following the tour, we had an opportunity to discuss our favorite books within small groups. The enthusiasm and passion with which individuals shared their book recommendations created an atmosphere brimming with anticipation and curiosity. I felt a sense of wonder and excitement when people got together to share their favorite books. Everyone took turns telling the reason they chose their book and what lessons they learned from it. It is a magical moment when the love of books brings us all together, creating a sense of belonging and connection. These moments remind me of the limitless possibilities that books hold, and I am grateful to have participated in this event. The Book Talk event proved to be a valuable resource for broadening our personal reading lists.

The Book Talk event not only facilitated the exploration of literature but also offered a platform for intercultural exchange. Participants came from diverse cultural backgrounds, and, through engaging conversations, we shared perspectives on literature and learned about different cultures. This exchange of ideas and experiences fostered a sense of understanding and appreciation among attendees, emphasizing the power of literature to bridge gaps between people.

Another notable aspect of the event was the warm welcome extended to English speakers. I was pleased to find that even Japanese participants made genuine efforts to communicate in English, encouraging intercultural dialogue and inclusion. This welcoming atmosphere created a space where language barriers were overcome, facilitating meaningful connections among attendees.

In conclusion, the Book Talk event exceeded all expectations, just like many other ICC events I have attended. It was an incredible chance to forge new friendships and enrich my university experience. I highly recommend that you follow Waseda ICC on Instagram to stay informed about upcoming events. Your student life will be even more vibrant and fulfilling with ICC events in the mix. The ICC members deserve recognition for their dedication to creating such a memorable event for all who attended.
