ICC World Geography Quiz
May 25, 2021

Do you know the shortest river in Japan?
What is the capital of Uzbekistan?
Which Japanese train company has the longest railway network?

If you can answer these questions, you should definitely join the next ICC World Geography Quiz. If you cannot, you should still join. To be honest, I never had such a fun time during an online quiz. Fair enough, I love geography and I become quite competitive whenever I hear the Kahoot! melody. (Kahoot! is an online quiz platform that can be joined be several players. If you do not know it, I recommend looking it up.)

All in all, there were 30 questions: 10 easy ones, 10 medium and 10 difficult. Most of them were about outside Japan but some of them were about Japan. It was funny to see how the participants got most answers right when the question was about their home country but had more difficulties when the question was about a different continent. However, the fantastic selection of questions taught me a lot about Japan. After everybody submitted an answer, the ICC showed the correct answer and provided brief background information. Everybody who chose the right one received points, plus a bonus if the answer was submitted quickly. This led to a final result, when all points were aggregated.

After the quiz, we were able to chat with the other participants and exchange contact information. During these pandemic times where extracurricular activities for students are canceled and many classes are moved online, the ICC is one of the last chances to experience student life. I cannot say how grateful I am to have the ICC at Waseda University.

Unfortunately, I lost my first place standing on the last question of the quiz. So, probably I’ll have to participate again 😉
