International students come to Waseda University from all over the world. Plus, thousands of students from Waseda participate in study programs abroad each year. In 2006, the ICC (then International Community Center, now Intercultural Communication Center) was established to take advantage of this diverse campus environment and further enrich intercultural exchange.
True to its name, the ICC is a space where students of all nationalities and backgrounds are welcome. Through interaction, students develop a new understanding of the world around them, while creating new values and interests.

There are many ways to get involved!
The ICC organizes a wide range of events and activities, around 200 each year!
These include Talk Sessions and Chat Cafes, music and dance performances, sports events and field trips, to name a few.
With such variety, you’re sure to find something that interests you! Many events require no advance registration – just show up! When pre-registration is required, you can usually apply in a couple of minutes on MyWaseda. It’s that simple!

Volunteer supporters are critical to the ICC! Whether you’re an international student who can help out with English Chat Club or Language Lunches, or a local student who’d like to coordinate a Welcome Festival or Japanese culture event, we want you at the ICC! Watch our website for upcoming opportunities.
We welcome your ideas for new and exciting events, like introducing your country’s culture and traditions to the Waseda community! Planning an event will involve many tasks such as advertising, negotiation with sponsors, coordination, facilitating discussion and more. How much responsibility you take on is up to you!

The ICC plans and organizes a variety of events and activities to facilitate intercultural exchange and understanding. Specific cultures are introduced through our Country Festivals and various topics of interest are taken up at our casual Themed Cafes and Language Lunch events. Our popular Language & Culture Exchange (organized at the beginning of each semester) matches you with another student, faculty or staff member, and you teach each other your language and culture. We hold dance and music nights with performances by various student groups and outside organizations; and we organize Field Trips around Japan, from one-day trips to longer ones, for both international and local students. To find out more, check out the List of Events.
The ICC recruits new Student Staff Leaders once per semester Each recruitment is announced on our website, and also via our ICC News email list. To find out more about Student Staff Leaders, check out this page.
Yes! The ICC’s events and programs are usually attended by a mixed group of local (from Japan) and international students. Most local students who come are eager to learn about different cultures and to make friends with their international counterparts.
Some events are open to the public, and others are not. Please check the “Eligibility” for each event.
The CIE provides information and services related to study abroad, for students going out from Waseda and coming here from overseas.
