Japanese Local Food Festival @Waseda ICC Japanese Culture Event (2023/12)

Poster

ICC holds local festivals so everyone in Waseda can enjoy Japan – a country filled with unique charms in each prefecture. This time, we will shine a spotlight on the local cuisine.

Miyagi, famous for its beef tongue from Sendai: the largest city in the northeast area, Kochi, known for delicious bonito and Ryoma Sakamoto, a famous leader of the Meiji restoration, and sunny Miyazaki, known for free-range jidori chicken and mangoes.

The representatives of the three prefectures will talk passionately about their local attractions directly to you! You can feel the charms of each prefecture, including tourist and gourmet food information that you don’t usually get in Tokyo.

Local snacks and drinks from each prefecture will be provided! You will also be able to chat with local government officials and hear more local information about each prefecture. This event will make you feel like you are on a gourmet tour.

We especially recommend this event for those who love to eat, want to taste delicious Japanese regional food, and are interested in the prefectures that will be represented this time and want to discover their local charms!

Why not join and become a huge fan of Miyagi, Kochi and Miyazaki?

Don’t miss it!

About the three prefectures
Miyagi Prefecture

Blessed with a variety of ingredients from the sea, mountains, and land, the “Food Kingdom Miyagi” offers specialties such as rice, seafood, meat, vegetables, and fruits. From Sendai’s famous beef tongue set menus and Zunda rice cakes to fresh seafood caught off the coast of Sanriku, known as one of the world’s best fishing grounds, Miyagi Prefecture offers an abundance of attractive gourmet foods.

Kochi Prefecture

Kochi Prefecture is blessed with abundant forests and blue seas, and this natural harmony has created a rich and varied environment. It is bordered by Ehime and Tokushima Prefectures across the Shikoku Mountains in the north, and on the south by the Pacific Ocean. With an area of approximately 7,104 km2, it is the largest of the four prefectures of Shikoku, and 84% of the land is forested. Due to the warm and humid climate, subtropical plants such as Japanese alder and bellflower grow wild in Cape Ashizuri and Muroto, and early rice is harvested in the Kochi Plain. The Prefecture also has a long history of vegetable gardening, with a tradition of using greenhouses.

Miyazaki Prefecture

Since ancient times, Miyazaki Prefecture has been called “Land of the Rising Sun” because it faces straight toward the rising sun.
Even today, as the catchphrase “the sunny spot of Japan” suggests, the
prefecture is blessed with a mild climate and long hours of sunshine, and the rich nature and diverse food culture nurtured there are major attractions.
