Hello guys, I am here to briefly share my thoughts and feedback on the ECC, English Chat Club.
During my university life, the most depressing thing is my terrible Japanese ability, which restricts a lot my speaking content in daily communication with my colleagues and teachers. This leads my being eager for a chance to share my thoughts and daily life in English. With this strong eagerness and the advertisement posted by ICC, I realized being a supporter of ECC is exactly what I needed for my university life. And thus, I was able to be a supporter in ECC in May 2023, and in fact I was also lucky enough to be a supporter in June 2023 again!
Being a supporter of the ECC, unlike the participants, we were responsible to lead the group in interacting with one another. As most of the participants do not have English as their first language, this may be challenging if you are hosting the group for the first time. However, don’t worry, you will receive guidance and activity suggestions before each ECC club meeting!
Each supporter hosts a group with 4–5 participants, as you are the only supporter in the group, you will have to be very energetic to encourage your participants to speak English. But trust me, you will find the interesting part very soon: I realized participants are much more willing to share themselves in the following sessions. One of my participants shared his project presentation with the whole group, despite the fact that we only knew each other through the ECC club. In the ending session in May, as it was a free talk session, I prepared an exciting card game to play and have fun together; it was an unforgettable experience in my point of view, no doubt.
If you are still worrying about your ability to be a supporter, in fact this is only just a small excuse that prevents your joining this wonderful event, because there will be clear guidance on what you should and shouldn’t do, and all of your participants will be respectful of each other! So, what are you waiting for? Let’s have fun and communicate with one another!
