Have you ever seen a traditional Japanese performing art show?
There are many traditional Japanese performing arts in Japan, such as wadaiko (Japanese taiko drums), shamisen, yosakoi, Noh, etc, but it may be rare to have a chance to experience them live.
This time, we have invited Waseda University’s yosakoi circle “Tokyo Hanabi” and wadaiko circle “Sakigake Hibiki” for a show on campus!
Why don’t you take this opportunity to watch a stunning performance of wadaiko and dance?
What’s more, some of the participants will be able to try the drums too!
Tokyo Hanabi performs a spectacular yosakoi, a traditional dance that originated in Kochi, and Sakigake Hibiki impresses with its powerful drums, music and call and response yells. Don’t miss it!
- Guests
Waseda University wadaiko circle Sakigake Hibiki
A Japanese drum circle with about 40 members. The cool appearance of the wadaiko drum, the powerful sound, and the expressions and shouts of the members are the features of our performances! We hope you’ll enjoy our lively and energetic performance!
Waseda University yosakoi circle Tokyo Hanabi
A Kochi-style yosakoi dance team with about 150 student members in total. There are both male and female dances, and the power and elegance of the performance are part of its charms. We also use matoi banners in our performances, which is rare for a student yosakoi team.
