My fascination with anime began during my high school years, sparking a dream to experience what living in Japan—the very birthplace of anime—is like. It was during my junior year of college that I resolved to turn this dream into reality, leading me to explore study abroad programs in Japan. This search ultimately introduced me to GLFP.
I couldn’t have been happier that I selected GLFP; GLFP has exceeded all expectations, offering far more than a conventional study abroad program. Through the weekly zemi classes, I delved deeply into subjects I had previously only skimmed the surface of, such as international business and Japanese postwar literature. Furthermore, the weekly forum classes prompted me to engage with pressing social issues, many of which I had not fully recognized or contemplated before due to the extent of their system city.
The program’s value extends beyond just academic offerings, though. GLFP also includes two fully-funded field trips: an initial exploration of Tokyo prior to the autumn semester, and a three-day excursion to Kumamoto during the break between the autumn and spring semesters. While we gathered twice a week for the zemi and forum classes, it was these field trips—particularly the latter—that truly cemented our bonds and forged friendships that will last a lifetime. These excursions, along with the weeklong volunteer camps with the Matsudai Jonnobi circle (I highly recommend immersing yourself in circles, sightseeing, and other activities during your stay here in Japan!), stand out as the most cherished highlights of my year in Japan.
If you seek to challenge yourself, broaden your horizons, and create lasting memories and friendships, look no further! This program is for you 🙂
