Home Help Support

Outline of the System

This is a system to provide financial assistance when full-time faculty and staff or their spouses become injured or sick, experience hardship in doing housework or caring for children or family members, and decide to employ a home helper.

Eligible Individuals

Full-time Faculty, Non-tenured Faculty, Researchers, Junior Researchers, Research Associates, Research Associates (JOSHU), Research Associates (KENKYU JOSHU), Full-time Staff and Full-time Contract Employees

From April 2020, faculty and staff who are employed through external funding will be eligible for Home Help Support.

Criteria for Financial Assistance

1.When full-time teaching faculty and staff or their spouses become injured, sick, have a baby or are hospitalized, experience hardship in doing housework or caring for children or family members, and decide to employ a home helper.

2.When full-time faculty and staff or their spouses find it necessary to care for a parent or child, experience hardship in doing housework or caring for additional children or family members, and decide to employ a home helper.

3.Other cases similar to the above.

<Note>This financial assistance will not be paid simply because a home helper is used (i.e. to care for a family member at home).

Assistance Amount

70 percent of the home helper cost (excluding transportation costs and commission fees), with a maximum payment of 7,000 yen per day.

In April 2020, the maximum amount of per diem financial assistance claimable under the Home Help System will be increased from 6,000 yen to 7,000 yen.

However, implementation of this new rate will begin earlier, starting with users in January 2020.
