Research Theme
Under the research theme of ‘Reconciliation and Coexistence in Asia’, we focus on specific issues within the Asian region related to reconciliation and coexistence and explore their characteristics. Furthermore, we aim to conduct a historical and structural analysis of the causes of these issues, and present methods and mechanisms for solving them. We also aim to construct a comprehensive, interdisciplinary, systematic and practical model of ‘Reconciliation and Coexistence in Asia’. We actively promote intellectual exchange between researchers involved in related research, and widely disseminate the results of our research activities to students at our university through public seminars.

Research Summary
Since April 2010, the Institute has been conducting research activities through two research projects: A. Problem-Solving Research Project and B. Structural Analysis Research Project, which have been developed and integrated into the research theme of ‘Reconciliation and Coexistence in Asia’. Since then, we have focused on specific issues within Asia related to reconciliation and coexistence (such as transitional justice, historical awareness, and authoritarian regimes), and have clarified their overall characteristics.
The findings of this research have been disseminated widely through publications (such as book series, the journal ‘Waseda Asia Review’, and reports on research projects) and networking activities (such as the establishment of research networks, the invitation of researchers, seminars, and symposiums). We will continue our research activities, building on the networks we have established both in Japan and overseas, and we will also plan new international projects related to public diplomacy
