Reasons for seeking employment in a Japanese corporation

I want to use the knowledge which I have learnt in the graduate school in a Japanese company.

  • Currently, Japan companies are aggressively employing foreign students, so there are more chances as a foreign student.
  • Japan companies have been expanding overseas, so I will have more chances to be active internationally in the future.

Starting period of job-hunting

I started my preparations for job-hunting from June 2010 and started the actual job-hunting activity from December 2010.

Number of industries and companies contacted

I used the services provided by the WASEDA University Career Center, the CGA program and internet job-hunting services “Recruit-Navi” to collect job-hunting information. I also exchange information with my friends. In addition, I use the free job-hunting support services to correct my entry-sheet and practise interviews.

Job-hunting methods

When looking for companies I mainly focused on those who were actively looking to expand their overseas operations. In order to further tighten my selection, I tried to refrain from applying to companies that had written examinations as a part of their selection process.

Challenges faced during job-hunting

Due to the earthquake, the job-hunting period became much longer, and since I will be graduating from the graduate school in September, I need to do the job-hunting activity and write my thesis at the same time. It is a very hard time for me to do both activities at the same time. On top of that, I failed in the school recommendation process. It almost made me lose all confidence in dealing with interviews.

Message to students who are planning to seek employment in Japan
