Voices of our Alumni 11 ~My Job-hunting Experiences in Japan~

Master’s Degree Program Graduated in March 2021
Job offers: Consulting & Manufacturing companies

A. Reasons for Working in Japan

I’ve been studying in Japan for 6 years, so I want to continue living here after graduation and learn how to work in Japanese society. The other reason is that I think most Japanese companies have very good training system.

B. Your Job-Hunting Period

From May 2019 to November 2019.

I started job-hunting very early, and that’s what I recommend everyone to do. I started preparing for job hunting such as do some exercises about SPI from the second month of my first year of graduate school. I started applying for some summer internships in May 2019 and received some offers for summer internship from some companies in different industries. After receiving an offer in November, I finished my job-hunting.

D. Methods of Job-Hunting

First, start preparing for job-hunting as early as possible, do self-analysis first, so that you can know your strengths, weaknesses and what you really what to do.

Second, find some friends who can do job-hunting with you and get as much information as possible. I’d like to recommend gaishisyukatu.com and one career because there are lots of useful information on these platforms. Share some information with your friends and get information from them, practice web tests and interview with them.

E. Challenges Faced

The most difficult part for me was group discussion. It was not easy to express my ideas in Japanese and find my position in a group discussion. My suggestion is to practice more, accumulate experiences and always be confident. Don’t be afraid of failure, treat every group discussion as an exercise.

F. Importance of Japanese Language

I think Japanese ability is very important during job-hunting. Because in general, entry sheet need to be written in Japanese, the questions about Japanese reading in web test are not easy even for native speakers.

G. Message to Potential Jobseekers

Job-hunting is a hard thing for everyone, especially for international students. I think the most important thing is being confident. Failure in an interview doesn’t mean that you are not good, most of the time, it just means that you are not suitable for the company. Believe that you will meet the right company for you!
