Reasons for seeking employment in a Japanese corporation
I decided to work at a Japanese company because I thought it would be a good chance for someone like me who wants to work in an international environment. Moreover, I want to utilize my knowledge that I have learnt in Japan.
Starting period of job-hunting
I started to gather information on careers in November, and I had attended job recruitment events and applied for companies since February.
Number of industries and companies contacted
I applied to about 15 companies including apparel companies, trading companies, IT firms, food processing companies, cosmetics manufacturing companies and airlines.
Job-hunting methods
First of all, I signed up on job search websites, and gathered information on careers that I was interested in. Besides, I participated in various recruitment events through associations where they helped international students find a job. I thought it is important to get used to a job interview and a group discussion, so not only did I attend as many interview seminars held in school as possible, I also practiced interviews with my friends.
Challenges faced during job-hunting
I put my best effort on self-analysis. Because I thought if I did not know myself well, I could not write a well-written entry sheet, nor could I make a good impression at a job interview, so I spent the longest time in analyzing myself.
Message to students who are planning to seek employment in Japan
I think believing in yourself is the most important thing when you are job-hunting. Sometimes you would get rejected and feel hurt. However, if you do not give up and keep a positive and confident attitude no matter what happens, I believe you will eventually get the job you want.
