On 17 October 2016, the UN Outreach mission was held in Waseda University in cooperation with the UN Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Staffs from UN Secretariat, UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, UN Women, UNOCHA, IOM, and CTBTO made respective presentations introducing the mission goals and activities in each field to create a better world. Each institution made a presentation related to “The 17 Sustainable Development Goals” towards the year 2030, and what their focuses are in respect of their mission goals.
As a preparation to become a staff at the UN, students were advised to acquire at least two UN languages and to specialize in a particular field of studies. The lecture pointed out the importance of having at least one field work abroad, which will become an advantage in applying for a position at the UN institutions. Another strong message from the UN Secretariat was that the UN has been trying to solve problems with people of from different backgrounds and they need more Japanese talents to join their world mission.
Be passionate. Be patient. Keep on trying and to never give up. Students were highly impressed by the presentations and the passion of the UN staffs gave a positive impact towards their future career goals.
