Reasonable Accommodation

At Waseda University, in accordance with the Basic Principles in relation to the support of students with disabilities, we strive to provide reasonable accommodations in entrance examinations and during studies at the university. (For details, please visit the Accessibility Resource Center website.)

If you expect to require reasonable accommodation during the entrance examination or after entering the university owing to a disability or serious medical condition, etc., please refer to the frequently asked questions below and contact the relevant school office before applying.

FAQ

Q1: Are there any points I should be careful about when preparing a medical certificate?

Please pay attention to the following:
・The medical certificate should clearly state the diagnosis and symptoms.
・For mental disabilities, including developmental disabilities, the following must be met:

The specific reasons for requiring accommodation must be clearly described. In case of developmental disabilities, test materials* must be attached. If the materials are not available, the reason must be stated in the application form.

*Test materials: Psychological or cognitive tests, behavioral assessments, etc., that explain the condition. (Must be issued within 3 years of application; copies are acceptable.)

Q2: I have a disability certificate. Can I apply with a copy of my disability certificate instead of a medical certificate?

Since the information written on the disability certificate may not provide sufficient details for the university to review the application, please submit a medical certificate whenever possible. If you wish to apply using only a disability certificate, please consult with the relevant school office.

Q3: What kind of accommodations can I receive?

Reasonable accommodations are determined individually based on the applicant’s condition, with the aim of removing barriers to the entrance examination. In principle, applicants who are granted accommodations will take the examination in a separate room designated for applicants requiring accommodations. In General Admissions(学部一般選抜), if you have received accommodations in the National Center for University Entrance Examinations(大学入学共通テスト), the content of those accommodations will be taken into account when deciding the accommodations provided at Waseda University.

[Examples of accommodations provided in past General Admissions(学部一般選抜)]
Designated seating; Permission to drink water or take medication during the examination; Use of hearing aids or earmuffs; Check-mark answering (for multiple-choice tests); Distribution of enlarged exam booklets (A3 size); Others

Note: Similar accommodations have been provided under admissions systems other than General Admissions(学部一般選抜) and 大学入学共通テスト利用入試.

Q4: I do not require accommodations for the entrance examination, but I will need support after enrollment. Do I still need to contact the school office? Also, I am planning to apply only through 大学入学共通テスト利用入試. In that case as well, is it necessary to submit the request?

Even if you do not require accommodations at the time of the entrance examination, you must contact the relevant school office and request accommodations if you will require support for your studies after enrollment.

Q5: What is the track record of accommodations in General Admissions(学部一般選抜)?

Approximately 500 cases of accommodations have been provided over the past 3 years.
