German Sport University Cologne President Dr. Heiko Strüder visited Waseda University on August 29. German Sport University Cologne is the only sport university in Germany and also reputable as an international institution, offering English-taught degrees ranging from sport medicine, sport management, sport psychology, to international sport development and politics at the graduate level.
Waseda University’s Faculty of Sport Sciences has a departmental agreement with German Sport University Cologne and aims to advance the international partnership between the two through the Health Promotion: The Joy of Sports and Exercise model unit. This is one of the six units of the Waseda Goes Global Plan, selected for funding by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)’s Top Global University Project.
This being his first visit to Waseda, President Strüder met with Vice President for International Affairs Norimasa Morita, Vice President for Promotion of Sports and Olympic/Paralympic Projects Isao Muraoka, Senior Dean of the Faculty of Sport Sciences Hidenori Tomozoe and others for an unofficial meeting.
Vice President Muraoka first introduced the efforts of Waseda University to promote sports. President Strüder then explained the roles of club teams and universities for top athletes in Germany.
An engaging conversation on how the two universities could further enhance their partnership for improving education and research followed the meeting.
