International Symposium “Health Promotion: The Joy of Sports and Exercise” was held on March 5th

Waseda University’s Health and Sport Sciences Unit held its third annual international symposium “Health Promotion: The Joy of Sports and Exercise” at the Higashi-Fushimi Campus on March 5. Guest speakers from overseas universities and Waseda professors presented their latest research in the symposium, followed by graduate students and young researchers giving poster presentations.IMG_6632
During the morning session which focused on sport sciences, Dr. Wanglok Lee from Chungnam National University in Korea shared his latest findings on the therapeutic effect of exercise for obesity-induced complications . From Waseda, Research Associate Michio Tojima spoke about the difference in how the pelvic moves between adults and adolescent soccer players during trunk extension, and Professor Yasuo Kawakami focused on exercise performance enhance by utilizing muscle mechanics.IMG_6685
Dr. Kong-Ting Yeh from National Taiwan Sport University, Dr. Hyungil Harry Kwon from Chung-Ang University, and Dr. Chatchai Chatpunyakul from Chulalongkorn University gave presentations on sport management education in Asia and shared their opinions during a panel discussion in the afternoon.IMG_6722

52 presentations were made during the student poster session, which provided graduate students and young researchers with an invaluable opportunity for international exchange.

Ms. Kuniko Moto (Waseda University), Ms. Kyoko Kashiwabara (Tokyo Gakugei University) and Ms. Wei-Han Chen (National Taiwan Sport University) received the Student Poster Awards, and Mr. Ryoji Onagawa (University of Tokyo) received the Encouragement Award. IMG_6733
Waseda University’s Faculty of Sport Sciences promises to advocate the globalization of education and research by playing a central role in international collaborative studies on sport sciences through activities like this symposium.IMG_6736
