Study Abroad

Application for Study Abroad

Students who have been approved of joining a study abroad program offered by CIE or the graduate school (exchange program/double degree program), a privately funded study abroad, or a scholarship funded study abroad, must complete the necessary administrative procedures. Download the Application for Study Abroad form below, and submit the form to the GSPS office.

Note that language training programs are not considered as study abroad programs. Those planning to go on a language training program must follow the administrative procedures for leave of absence.

Procedures after Completion of Study Abroad

Please submit the “Notification of Return from Study Abroad” and a certificate of enrollment period or certificate of enrollment issued by the university where you studied abroad to the GSPS office as soon as returning to Japan.

Students are automatically reinstated at the end of the study abroad period (semester) that was approved before your departure.

Approval of Credits

Based on the application from the student, credits earned in advance of  the admission or during the study abroad period can be counted towards the required number of credits for completion. In applying for credit recognition through MyWaseda within the designated period. For details on how to apply, please refer to “【Important]】Course Registration Schedule & How to Register” on the Course Registration, Syllabi page.

<Documents necessary for application>

  1. Documents that include details of the contents of the courses (e.g., syllabus)
  2. Academic transcript showing the grades obtained

※Please attach a translation if the documents are in neither Japanese nor English for Items 1 and 2.

Study Abroad Programs (from Waseda)

Study Abroad Programs offered by the Center for International Education (University-wide Exchange Programs)

The Center for International Education (hereinafter CIE) have several study abroad programs based on university level partnerships.
For more details, please refer to CIE website.

Points

  • Higher priority than other international students in terms of coursework and housing arrangements during study abroad.
  • Relatively high language skills are required, as there is no local language training and students are required to take local courses from the start.
  • Some programs are one semester in duration.

Privately funded study abroad

  • Study overseas universities which Waseda University does not have an exchange program agreement with.

*In principle, you have to apply for Waseda university specified overseas travel insurance even if you do not join Waseda university exchange program. You will be instructed how to join the insurance when you submit the form, “Application for Study Abroad”.
