This symposium will be held with the support of the Nomura Foundation’s “Research Grant for Pioneering the Frontiers of Finance and Capital Markets” (“Realizing Smooth Engagement between Listed Companies and Shareholders by Legislating Beneficial Shareholder Identification”), for which Nakamura, the caretaker of this event, is the principal investigator. The purpose of this program is to conduct comparative legal discussion with the legislation of beneficial shareholder identification in France, one of the leading countries that already has such a system, in order to confirm the theoretical basis of the system that is being considered for establishment in the upcoming revision of the Companies Act in Japan and identify issues based on the current proposed design of such a system for exploring the ideal form of the system. Specifically, as described in the program, the keynote speech will be followed by individual presentations from Japan and France, and then a panel discussion will be held to obtain legal suggestions that will be mutually beneficial for both Japan and France.
