Author Yoko Tawada and three others were awarded the 2019 Asahi Prize.
Established in 1929, the Asahi Prize is presented by the Asahi Shimbun Foundation to individuals and groups that have made outstanding accomplishments in the fields of academics and the arts and have contributed to the development and progress of Japanese culture or society.
Ms. Tawada is a Waseda alumna and recipient of the 2009 Tsubouchi Shoyo Award. She has been part of many cultural programming activities which take place at Waseda, such as the performance and workshop held every year in November together with jazz pianist Aki Takase.
This news comes with great excitement for the university as well. Congratulations Ms. Tawada!
