YABUNO Ken is a painter who has consistently engaged with familiar landscapes, meticulously depicting the time etched within them. He has quietly observed the landscapes within daily life, treating the very act of walking, pausing, and gazing as a journey.
This exhibition introduces the spaces and transformations of Waseda University through watercolor works of its campus created over many years. Starting with buildings like the Okuma Auditorium and scenes within the grounds, it traces the time and memories layered upon the place known as “Waseda.” What is depicted are not special events, but the everyday scenes that have continuously embraced the activities of students and faculty.
Yabuno’s brushwork captures not only the shapes of buildings, but also the atmosphere and the sense of time flowing through the space. Using the paintings as a guide, we invite you to overlay the depicted scenes with the present campus and let your thoughts wander through the time that lives there.
