Use of Images from Our Collection
If you wish to use any of the images made available by the Museum on its website or in the Cultural Resource Database for any of the following purposes, you do not need to apply to use the images.
-For personal use as research material
-Temporary use for school classes, academic conferences, etc.
-Sharing links to images for academic purposes
If you wish to use any of the images from our collection for purposes other than those listed above, please let us know by e-mail or phone. After a review, if we decide to approve the use of the image, we will inform you of the application procedure. It may take some time to review the application, so please contact us well in advance. For materials that require permission from the copyright holder, please obtain permission in advance.
Browsing Materials
We may approve a request to browse materials from our collection only if the applicant belongs to a research or educational institution and wishes to browse materials for research or educational purposes, or if the previous owner of the materials or a related person wishes to browse materials from our collection. Doctoral students must submit a letter of recommendation (in any format) from their supervisor along with the application form. If the applicant is a master’s student or an undergraduate student, he/she must be accompanied by his/her supervisor when browsing the materials. It may take some time to review the browsing application, so please consult with us well in advance (about one month).
Borrowing Materials
If you wish to borrow materials from our collection for the purpose of exhibition, please contact us first by phone or e-mail. We will consider your request, provided that the planned exhibition venue is a museum, art museum, or a similar facility, and that the safety of the materials during transport, display, and storage will be ensured. If we determine that the materials may be borrowed, we will ask you to submit an “Application for Borrowing Materials for Exhibition” at least three months prior to the desired date of use. If you wish to borrow materials that require the permission of the copyright holder, please obtain such permission in advance.
