What do you really know about your own “genes”?
Today’s genetic testing can now tell you what illnesses you may develop or even whether or not you could become a professional athlete in the future.
With modern medicine you can now easily order your own testing kit and receive the results quickly online. However, is knowing all your genetic information really a blessing or a burden?
There are several ethical issues that have been raised, including the prenatal examination of fetuses to determine any hereditary conditions.
Recently the issue of “Designer Babies” was also covered on an NHK TV drama, where the genes of babies are modified to produce a desired hair or eye color.
How can we as humans face such a complex and powerful technology?
In this event, all these topics will be discussed in English with students from Tokyo Medical and Dental University. This cafe is aimed at students with no prior knowledge of medicine or specialist English terminology, so if you’d like to chat in English with students from another university then sign up today!
