Waseda’s School of International Liberal Studies (SILS) has concluded an agreement on an undergraduate double degree program with the Faculty of Arts at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.

Under the agreement, five undergraduate students from each school and faculty will spend two years abroad in the respective host universities. Students from SILS will be enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts in Language and Culture (BALAC) program, an English undergraduate liberal arts program offered by the Faculty of Arts at Chulalongkorn University. After studying abroad and completing the necessary requirements, each student will receive two undergraduate degrees—one confers by Waseda and the other by Chulalongkorn University—upon graduation.

The first academic agreement signed between Waseda and Chulalongkorn University dates back to 1995. Ever since, the two universities have co-organized many symposia and academic exchanges on faculty and student levels. Between 2013 and 2018, Waseda University’s AIMS7 Universities Consortium Plurillingual and Pluricultural Program was selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) under the Inter-university Exchange Project to strengthen its competitiveness overseas. Chulalongkorn University was a core partner in the program.

The concluding of the double degree agreement will further strengthen ties between the two universities, as well as promote student exchange and collaborative research between faculty members in the future.
