Entrance ceremonies for the new class were held on April 1 – 3 at the Okuma Auditorium.

There was a welcoming mood at the Waseda Campus, as the cherry blossoms on campus welcomed the new admits. The entrance ceremonies were held for 9,098 undergraduates, 2,927 postgraduates, and 998 September admits, totaling to 13,023 students. Approximately 13% of these students are from abroad.

During the ceremony, Waseda University President Kaoru Kamata congratulated the students on their acceptance.

“In addition to the knowledge you have accumulated, we anticipated students to acquire necessary skills and mindset, as well as overall competency, to fearlessly survive and lead this unpredictable age. To do so, I ask students to proactively utilize the enriching academic environment of the university and take opportunities to work together with the unique faculty and students here at Waseda.”

At the same time, club rush events were taking place. Many signboards introducing student club activities stood along the sidewalk. Students handed out flyers and carried picket signs, enthusiastically recruiting the new students. In front of Building 10, jazz band and shamisen circles performed live. Waseda University has a reputation for having active student clubs with nearly 570 student organizations existing, something for everyone to enjoy. This club rush is one of the University’s spring traditions.
